Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown perform brow lifts for patients in Baltimore, Washington D.C., Annapolis, and the surrounding areas of Maryland. Many people first begin to experience signs of aging on their forehead, leaving them with a constant tired or angry expression. This happens due to natural aging and factors such as the sun and the pull of gravity. Your skin begins to sag, and heaviness settles over your brows. A brow lift is a way to tighten your skin once more and bring the youthful appearance back to your face.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a surgical procedure that addresses the brow and forehead areas of the upper face. By removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissue, the brow lift can significantly improve signs of aging for a refreshed appearance. The procedure can be performed alone or used in combination with other rejuvenating treatments like the facelift, Botox®, Dysport®, or fillers.
Benefits of a Brow Lift
There are many benefits to choosing the brow lift for facial rejuvenation.
The procedure can improve the following concerns:
- Deep forehead wrinkles
- Wrinkles between the brows
- Sagging or hooded brows
Many patients have trouble deciding which procedure will benefit their specific signs of aging. When it comes to the brow lift, the upper face is being addressed. Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown can help you determine if you could benefit from a brow lift.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Candidates for a brow lift are those who want to address signs of aging in the upper face, including the brows and forehead. Many patients make the mistake of thinking the facelift will address these areas. A facelift will only address the lower two-thirds of the face. For full-facial rejuvenation, you might be a candidate for a face and brow lift combination. We can schedule your consultation with Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, or Dr. Brown to determine if you are a good candidate for the brow lift procedure.
How is a Brow Lift Performed?
With brow lifts, the point of incision can vary depending on what your surgeon and you decide are best for the results you desire. The options are an incision behind the natural hairline, known as coronal, or right at the natural hairline, known as pre-trichial. The pre-trichial incision heals favorably and lowers the hairline, however, there can sometimes be mild scarring that is noticeable. The most modern option recommended by Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown is an endoscopic procedure that consists of several small incisions placed just behind the hairline. Although it does take longer than the other options, it is less invasive. In addition, with this method, there is less chance of scalp numbness. At the office of Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown, this procedure generally takes 1-2 hours.
Recovery After a Brow Lift
After the brow lift procedure, there can be swelling for 1-2 weeks, so it is recommended to keep your head elevated and apply a cold compress if necessary. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks. After your brow lift recovery, your face will be restored to its youthful appearance, taking many years off of your look.
