Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown perform liquid facelifts for patients in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Annapolis and the surrounding areas of Maryland. Over time, our skin begins to show the effects of aging with fine lines, wrinkles, and other imperfections. A surgical facelift is one solution that can give dramatic improvements to severe signs of aging, but not everyone is ready for surgery and downtime. Luckily, Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown offer nonsurgical solutions to facial rejuvenation like the liquid facelift.
What is a Liquid Facelift?
A liquid facelift is a technique for injecting advanced formulas such as Botox® or Dysport®, along with Juvederm®, Radiesse® or Restylane® to lift and contour your facial features that have been adversely affected by the signs of aging. Neuromodulators like Botox® and Dysport® can effectively smooth out wrinkles caused by facial expressions, while dermal fillers can add instant volume to folds and poorly contoured features. A nonsurgical liquid facelift can provide you with a gentle lift of your facial features while reducing wrinkles, creases, lines or folds, and restoring your naturally curved facial contours so that you have a friendlier smile and a more rested and energetic appearance. Because a liquid facelift uses only injectable products, patients can enjoy a refreshed appearance without going under the knife, avoiding incisions and downtime.
Benefits of a Liquid Facelift
Depending on your customized liquid facelift plan, the treatment can improve some of the following concerns:
- Crow’s feet in the corners of the eyes
- Frown lines between the brows
- Forehead lines
- Wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth
- Chin wrinkles
- Flattened cheeks
- Hollow under eyes
- Thinning lips
In some patients, the goal of a non-surgical liquid facelift procedure is to lift the entire face. In others, the goal is to lift or contour specific facial features. A liquid facelift from Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, or Dr. Brown can help you get your youthful complexion back without the hassles of surgery and postoperative recovery.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Liquid Facelift?

How is a Liquid Facelift Performed?
When you come in for a liquid facelift procedure, your surgeon will use a combination of dermal fillers and other injectables to provide lasting results. Depending on your exact needs, the doctor may use Botox® or Dysport® in conjunction with dermal fillers, such as Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Restylane®, Perlane® or Sculptra®. The most important component of the liquid facelift procedure is that it is tailored to each patient’s exact needs. The doctor will discuss your desires and expectations and choose the right combination of products to rejuvenate specific areas of the face. This may include lifting and/or contouring. You can choose to undergo as much or as little work as desired to get the results you want.
No matter what products you and your surgeon choose, you can be sure that the treatment process will be as quick and as comfortable as possible. You may elect to have a topical anesthetic applied before treatment to minimize any discomfort. If you are especially nervous about needles, inhaled nitrous oxide with the Pro-Nox® system is also available to calm your nerves (additional $50 service charge for Pro-Nox®). Your skin will then be mapped out to determine the best injection points depending on your concerns. Your expert surgeon injector will then place a small amount of the appropriate injectable products to address signs of aging and rejuvenate your appearance.
Recovery After a Liquid Facelift
Because a liquid facelift is nonsurgical, there is no downtime required. However, it is not uncommon to experience mild side effects for several days following your treatment. These can include redness, bruising, swelling, and itching at the injection points. You can help control these symptoms by applying an ice pack and avoiding exposure to heat such as from the sun or hot water. If you do develop bruising after the treatment, we are also able to eliminate this with our Vbeam® pulsed dye laser! Our doctors can also recommend several medications to help prevent and/or treat bruising.
Some of the results from a liquid facelift can be noticed immediately, with correction of folds and wrinkles. Other benefits will continue to improve as Botox® or Dysport® begins to work, blocking wrinkle-causing muscle contractions. The results of a liquid facelift are temporary but can last for 1-2 years depending on the products used. These results can also be easily maintained with periodic touch-up sessions.
