The thighs are one area that is prone to excess skin and tissue, especially with age or after a dramatic weight loss. With a thigh lift procedure, you can achieve toned thighs and improve your confidence.
What is a Thigh Lift?
Many people are plagued with loose, sagging skin or cellulite on the thighs. Others have thighs that are disproportionate to the rest of their body or rub together and cause chafing whenever they walk. A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that addresses all these problems by removing sagging skin to give the thighs a more toned appearance. The thigh lift can be performed alone or can be done as part of a larger body recontouring procedure.
Benefits of a Thigh Lift
A thigh lift can:
- Produce more shapely thighs that are free from wrinkles, sagging skin, or cellulite
- Reduce thighs that are too large in comparison to the lower leg
- Enhance the shape of the thighs
- Help provide a thigh gap so that legs do not rub together when wearing skirts
Who is a Good Candidate for a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift is not a substitute for weight loss. That being said, it can help those who are generally fit, yet have thighs that are disproportionate to the rest of their body. Those who have experienced significant weight loss might also desire a thigh lift to help them reduce the sagging skin that remains. A thigh lift addresses loose skin and tissue and can also remove stubborn fat with liposuction.
How is a Thigh Lift Performed?
For a thigh lift procedure, your surgeon will make an incision in the groin area or along the inside of the thigh. If excess fat must also be extracted, liposuction may be the next step. This involves using a thin tube to suction away fat and allow for sleeker contours. If liposuction is not needed, excess tissue will simply be trimmed away. The outer skin will be pulled tightly over your new, smaller thighs and held together with stitches. Additional shaping could be required to help you achieve a more pleasing form or to produce a thigh gap.
Recovery After a Thigh Lift
After a thigh lift procedure, patients are advised to take at least 2-3 weeks off work to recover. During this time, swelling and discomfort can be expected but is manageable with pain medication and ice packs. Patientโs should wear a compression garment for the first 4 weeks after surgery, in order to help minimize swelling. It can take several weeks to return to regular activities and exercise. Your surgeon will tell you when it is OK to start introducing exercises again.
