Many patients wish for a larger, rounder, more balanced backside. With a buttock augmentation, this is all possible with several different techniques to choose from, whether it’s with implants or your own fat cells.
What is a Buttock Augmentation?
Some women and even men are dissatisfied with the shape of their buttocks. These patients may feel as though their rear end is too flat or lacks definition. A buttock augmentation can effectively change the shape or projection of the buttocks. This surgery usually involves using a fat transfer procedure known as a Brazilian butt lift to add fullness using the patient’s own fat cells. The buttock augmentation can also refer to a butt enhancement with the use of silicone implants.
Benefits of a Buttock Augmentation
Buttock augmentation surgery can:
- Create well-defined buttocks
- Lift sagging cheeks
- Reduce the appearance of cellulite
- Help clothes fit better
Who is a Good Candidate for a Buttock Augmentation?
You may be a good candidate for a buttock augmentation if you are happy with the size of your rear end, but are not necessarily fond of its shape. If you desire a curvier figure or would like greater projection, you may also want to consider a buttock augmentation. Those with enough excess fat on other areas of the body can benefit from the Brazilian butt lift using their own fat cells for a natural-looking enhancement. Those who want a significant enhancement, but lack enough excess fat, can find success with implants or a combination of techniques.
How is Buttock Augmentation Performed?
The buttock augmentation will involve one or both of the following techniques:
A fat transfer to the buttocks is commonly referred to as a Brazilian butt lift. During this technique, fat cells are taken from a donor site like the thighs or the abdomen. This is done using liposuction, with tiny incisions to insert a cannula and remove fat. The fat cells are then processed and purified, getting ready for placement. Several tiny incisions will then be made on the buttocks through which fat cells can be placed, creating an even contour. This technique allows patients to receive the slimming benefits of liposuction with an enhancement to their backside in one procedure.
Butt implants are another option for enhancing the size and shape of the buttocks. Implants are composed of silicone and come in various sizes. With implants, patients can achieve a more significant enhancement if they desire. For the procedure, an incision will be made beneath the crease of the buttock or in the gluteal cleft. The implant will then be placed, and the incision is closed.
Recovery After Buttock Augmentation
Your recovery after buttock augmentation will depend on the technique which was used. For a Brazilian butt lift, it is very important not to put any pressure on the buttocks for two weeks after the procedure. This means minimizing sitting as much as possible. Any pressure could potentially kill the fat cells and negatively impact your results. A compression garment will also be given to you and should be worn at all times during the instructed time. For a buttock augmentation with implants, the incisions will be bandaged and you should avoid sitting or laying on the back for 2 weeks. Exercise should be avoided for about 3-4 weeks.
