Read on to learn about Botox and what it can do for you.

What is Botox?

Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is an injectable that temporarily paralyzes muscles where it’s injected – this erases wrinkles in the face. When done correctly, the results are nothing short of amazing, easily turning back the hands of time by 10 years.

Uses of Botox

Botox is no longer only used to unfurrow brows. Botox can be injected in a variety of locations to minimize, erase and even prevent the signs of aging. Botox is typically used to treat dynamic lines.

Dynamic lines are caused by repetitive movement. After years of smiling, worrying and frowning, these types of lines eventually become apparent. Dynamic line tend to occur between the brows, around the eyes and in the forehead.

How it Works

After consultation and examination of your areas of concern, Botox is injected with a very fine needle. Since Botox is dispensed in units, the exact number of units depends on the areas being treated and the degree of correction needed. There is no downtime and patients can resume normal activities after treatment.

However, it is recommended that patients refrain strenuous exercise for 4 hours to prevent spread. Although extremely rare, there are cases of Botox spread, which means the toxin is administered in one area but spreads to others are of the face. For this reason, it’s important to only have Botox administered by a doctor who is familiar with facial anatomy.

Recovery and Results

As stated, there is no downtime after having Botox injections. There are little to no side effects from Botox injections. Some patients may experience slight swelling and bruising at the injection sites, however, this typically resolves within 24 to 48 hours.

Results from Botox injections start to appear five to seven days after treatment, with the final result seen within two weeks. On average, results last between three and four months. However, with repeat treatment, results can last even longer.
